Coach POPEterno and the aftermath

Joe Paterno 110% should have been fired. Here's why, what is being reported now didn't "just happen, or happen once 8 years ago. Pattern of abuse that Jerry Sandusky committed because of the charity to "help kids" he founded, to the use of football facilities. Sandusky retired 13 years ago after rumors in late 1998 about him, he then retired in early 199. However Sandusky maintained Emeritus status and STILL had an office in the football building and unlimited access to practice. Which he used to take kids from his charity too. The same kids who are making the allegations against him. Sandusky had access to practice all the way up until last year. With what the rumors were in 1998 and then Sandusky retiring a month later, then what was reported to Paterno in 2002, you really think continuing to give the guy access to the program makes any kind of sense? Not in the least He also did NOT report it like he was legally required to do so. High School teachers and coaches are mandatory reporters, if we have a kid in class or on a team we think is being abused in some way we have to report it to out admin. Who would then call the proper authorities, while we were all in the room. These guys couldn't even bother to do that? No sympathy for them firing him. Feel free to look up anything I put in this post. All documented. Don't let the mult-billion dollar partner of the NCAA, ESPN, be your only source for sports news. What is most shocking to me is the outcry of support for Paterno outside of Penn State fans. Was it because he had won so many games? Or maybe his age people want to cut him some slack. Bullshit. It's nearly impossible to get rid of such an iconic coach, but it's something that needed to be done several years ago simply because of his declining ability. The man was let go in 1999 as defensive coordinator, but was able to keep an office and his status as an Emeritus. It is in this where Paterno and the athletic department failed to do the right things as men. It is imperative in that situation that you don't just pass it along the chain of command. Paterno, the AD, the school President, and the guy who witnessed what happened in 2002 needed to get in a room and contact the police.
I don't even know what sodomy is!
With Paterno's legacy the thing that gets lost in this is, what happened to the kids, ad will they be abe to recover. It seems that most reports (albeit unsubstantiated as of yet) lthat reference allegations and they are supposedy pretty horrific. We can only hope the kids get the help they need. Back to the football, it does say something about the board of trustees that they fired Paterno now rather than let him finish the season. Keep in mind they lead the Big Ten and have an inside track to a BCS game, which would more than likely be a Rose Bowl berth. So we take away the Rose Bowl chance from Penn State and now they have to have an eye on the future. A team steeped in tradition that has has consistent success for over 40 years. would normally have no problem finding the most qualified candidate to take the job, but the pall hangs over Happy Valley like a giant fog. The board of trustees certainly did themselves no favors with how they handled the dismissal of Paterno this evening. A phone call and then 15 minutes later they hold a press conference announcing his firing. Regardless of the circumstances Joe obviously deserved a little more than that, and the behavior of the Board will certainly be a factor on any coaches mind. Who is going to coach them up next year
Not me pal, that place is going to take a long time for people to stop referring to PSU as Pedophile State University. Besides, my house in Columbus is almost finished
Earlier in the year there was a lot of mentions on the interwebs that Urban Meyer's daughter was being heavily recruited to play volleyball at Penn State (top 5 program annually) and the athletic department would get a great volleyball player. Not to mention the best college coach currently not working. I would have to doubt that after all this Sandusky business that Meyer would throw himself into the fire to go save a school he has no ties too. The only tie he has there is him and the AD used to work together many years ago, but as soon as the AD fails to get Coach Meyer signed on, he will be losing his job as well. Penn State has only one option to to hire if he would take the job, and that is the great Pirate/Lawyer/Football Guru Mike Leach. Who wouldn't want to see a Big Ten (12) game with a whole bunch of passing and scoring? Gone wlll be the days of 9-7 games, with Leach in the league the other teams will have to adapt to both stop him, AND increase their scoring, because we all know that you can't truly stop Mike Leach.
